The Education and Learning Program provides year-round programming working directly with refugee youth, their parents and families, and their schools.Job Overview/Summary:The Youth Education Specialist will work closely with the Youth Education Supervisor to support high-quality programming for refugee and immigrant youth in New York City. The specialist will be working on a team that works on youth education programs including, but not limited to, Youth Tutoring, online Youth English for Speakers of Other Languages (YESOL) classes, and Leaders in Training (LIT), a college access and career readiness program for high school juniors and seniors. During the annual Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA), the Youth Education Specialist will provide logistical support to teaching staff, coordinate instructional coaching, coordinate classroom assessment materials, collect, enter and analyze assessment data, and ensure the overall day-to-day classroom needs of the Academy are met.Major Responsibilities:This position will lead the Youth Tutoring program also known as TOAD (Tools and Opportunities for Academic Development):
o Interview and train tutors to work with K-12 newly arrived studentso Conduct regular check ins and professional development sessions for tutors
o Create weekly slideshows with unique ice breakers and community building activitieso Create and improve TOAD curriculum to meet the needs of current student population including academic Englisho Prepare slideshows for each class, including ice breakers and community agreements.
o Manage new referral and contact information, outreach to potential families and studentso Administer baseline, midline and endline English assessments, coordinate intake processo Collaborate with parents and teachers to identify specific student needs
o Track class attendance and document daily individual and class case noteso Gather qualitative data of program impact through student surveys and staff observationso Synthesize and present data for annual reports
o Run afterschool virtual tutoring sessionso Run hybrid tutoring sessions on Saturdays
o Create 1-hour activities for tutoring students and familieso Develop partnerships with community-based organizations to guest conduct fun and engaging events on Saturdays
o Recruit and hire Youth Education internso Delegate weekly tasks and review submitted projects and taskso Provide opportunities for leadership and professional developmentSupport the Mini Newcomer Youth Spring Academy (Mini NYSA) and the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA), with direct responsibility for the academic program

Working Environment: All applicants must be based in or be willing to work from our New York City office. The IRC NYC RAI office is currently working in a hybrid environment (3 days in office and 2 remote). However, the specialist is expected to be in-person Monday-Friday during mini-NYSA and NYSA which we plan to take place in-person in a centrally located public school in New York City.Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.
