REMOTE TAX REVIEWER and ACCOUNTING FIRM OPERATIONS ($100-115K)
Remote Tax Reviewer for an established accounting firm with high-net worth and business owner clients. Great benefits, work hours and team members. Realistic hours, work from home, and minimal interaction with clients. Candidates must have experience in leading preparation and review operations at an accounting firm to meet deadlines.
You’ll be a part of a growing team in an extremely entrepreneurial environment with advancement opportunities of your own. The team is stable and productive virtually, with short daily team meetings.
Your personal work load will look like:
· 4–6 unique returns reviewed per day
· ~45 min average time per return
· 5 hrs daily review time
· 2 hrs daily workflow management
· 45 hrs average weekly max
· 3×/yr sprint periods (Apr, Sep, Oct)
What you'll do
Tax review & QC
• Senior review of returns, workpapers, diagnostics, estimates & extensions
• Check accuracy, completeness & alignment with firm standards
• Write clear, actionable review notes that move work forward
• Identify recurring issues and escalate for training or process updates
Workflow & deadlines
• Monitor production queues across the full filing workflow
• Track each return from prep through e-file acceptance
• Spot bottlenecks and deadline risks early
• Report daily & weekly metrics to the managing partner
Visibility & reporting
• Maintain clear status on what's received, in prep, in review, filed, accepted
• Surface capacity issues and rebalance workload as needed
• Help leadership delegate with confidence
Team support
• Resolve questions & escalations (up to ~3/day, mostly quick)
• Support a junior reviewer currently being trained up
• Work calmly and steadily through high-volume periods
What client is looking for
· CPA, EA, or equivalent — with 5+ years of tax prep and/or review experience
· Public accounting background with formal review processes, checklists & diagnostics
· Experience reviewing both individual and business returns
· English verbal and written communication skills to review, train, and explain work
· Strong grasp of deadlines, extensions, estimates & e-file workflow
· Able to track multiple client groups, statuses & priorities simultaneously
· Comfortable in a high-growth firm that's evolving its systems and workflows
· Calm, steady, solutions-oriented — you don't spiral under deadline pressure
· Ability to work for any employer in the US for any period of time without sponsorship
This role is one of 3–4 reviewers working alongside the managing partner in a firm of ~20 preparers and reviewers. You won't own a client list — your job is to protect quality and keep work moving.
