Job description: Job Description:Job OverviewAs a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus and up to a $5,000 relocation bonus!Schedule: This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day/evening shift with night and weekends rotating as needed. Call requirement in addtion to FTE.About our OR at UMMC West Bank:

• We are a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily.
• The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, and 1 Cath Lab.
• We are performing an average of 36 cases per day.

• High Volume Complex Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic Peds, Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, Benign GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Organ procurements, Peds Dental, Robotic DaVinci.

• Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
• Following appropriate action in emergency situations.

Required Qualifications:

• Complete one of the following by hire date:

• Military Surgical Assistant; OR
• Surgical Technologist training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Certification eligible at time of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• AST certification
• 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience

Other Required Skills:

• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Desired Skills:

• Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work well under a team environment.
