Job Summary:
As a Specialized Health Paraprofessional at Wayne RESA, you will be responsible for providing essential physical and educational support to students with diverse needs. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students, working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing specialized physical health care services, including:
- Suctioning and blood sugar testing
- Medication administration and drip and tube feeding administration
- Changing diapers and other specialized services
- Operating specialized medical equipment and instruments for assessment and treatment
- Responding to emergencies and evaluating student conditions
- Providing health instruction and care as needed
- Assisting with basic instructional tasks in the classroom or on field trips
- Working with students individually or in small groups, tutoring, and reinforcing lesson plans
- Assisting teachers with maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom environment
- Supporting students with personal hygiene, good grooming, and manners
- Collaborating with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills
- Maintaining confidentiality and high levels of ethical behavior
Requirements and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or higher, or Workkey's Proficiency Certificate for Teacher's Assistants
- Formal State or local academic assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instructing
- Knowledge of special education programs and procedures
- Ability to take direction from School Nurses and Directors of Special Education
- Proficiency in operating modern office equipment, personal computers, and related software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with diverse needs
- Certification in a related field (e.g., nursing, education)
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
