About the Role Our client, a forward-thinking pharmaceutical company, is actively seeking a highly experienced Principal Medicinal Chemist to join their expanding, fully remote research team. This critical role will spearhead the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecule drug candidates for various therapeutic areas. You will be instrumental in driving our discovery programs forward, working closely with cross-functional teams including biologists, pharmacologists, and computational chemists. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and a passion for translating scientific insights into life-changing medicines. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and synthesis of diverse chemical libraries for drug discovery programs. Optimize lead compounds to improve potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and safety profiles. Collaborate closely with biologists and pharmacologists to establish structure-activity relationships (SAR) and guide compound selection. Utilize computational chemistry tools and cheminformatics for molecular design and data analysis. Manage external synthesis CROs and ensure timely delivery of high-quality compounds. Author scientific reports, patent applications, and publications. Present research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences. Stay current with the latest advances in medicinal chemistry and relevant therapeutic areas. Requirements Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry. 10+ years of progressive experience in medicinal chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Demonstrated success in designing and delivering clinical candidates. Extensive experience with modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and reaction optimization. Strong knowledge of ADMET properties and strategies for their optimization. Proficiency in using chemical drawing software (e.g., ChemDraw) and molecular modeling tools. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a creative approach to chemical synthesis challenges. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective remote collaboration. Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior chemists.
