As a Principal iOS Software Engineer in NETGEAR’s new Center of Excellence in Cork, you will be at the forefront of our global transformation, reimagining our iOS app used by millions of customers. We are embarking on a complete overhaul of our app, and we need engineers who are passionate about working with the latest iOS technologies and frameworks to build future-proof solutions.
You’ll work primarily in Swift and play a pivotal role in shaping the app’s architecture and design patterns, influencing core technical decisions that impact millions of users. You’ll work in an Agile environment, contributing to cutting-edge mobile development, where your voice matters, and you’ll help drive technical decisions as part of a cross-functional team.
As a hybrid role, you will work from the Cork office at least two days a week, balancing in-person collaboration with remote work. Your contributions will be critical as NETGEAR transitions to a software-driven model.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and drive architectural decisions: You will have a key voice in decisions shaping the future of NETGEAR’s iOS app, working with Swift, SwiftUI, and the latest iOS frameworks.
Innovate with modern tooling: Leverage the best tools and technologies, including Swift Package Manager, Fastlane, and continuous integration pipelines with GitHub Actions, to ensure fast, reliable app development.
Take ownership of implementing high-performance, scalable features: Design features that will serve millions of global users, focusing on optimizing performance, improving scalability, and enhancing security.
Collaborate with cloud and embedded systems teams to create a seamless integration between mobile software and NETGEAR’s hardware devices, bringing IoT innovations to life.
Continuous Improvement: Participate in code reviews, drive unit testing, and lead the effort to continuously improve our development processes through automation and DevOps.
A Typical Day Might Include:
Daily Standup: Start the day with a team standup to provide updates on your progress, raise any challenges, and plan your tasks for the day.
Technical Discussions and Collaboration: Participate in design and architectural discussions, collaborating with the team to ensure alignment on the app’s development and design vision.
Coding and Implementation: Spend time writing clean, well-factored code, focusing on new features and improvements to the iOS app, ensuring high standards of quality and performance.
Code Reviews: Conduct or participate in code reviews to maintain best practices and ensure the quality of the app’s codebase.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with counterparts in Cloud and Embedded Systems to ensure smooth integration between the iOS app and NETGEAR hardware and services.
Learning and Innovation: Research and stay up to date with the latest iOS development tools, frameworks, and best practices, sharing insights with the team to keep the app cutting-edge.
About You:
Minimum Requirements:
10+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on iOS applications.
Hands-on experience with SwiftUI, Combine, and the latest Apple frameworks.
Passion for creating intuitive, beautiful user interfaces that delight customers.
Strong Experience with iOS application architectures such as MVVM and MVC.
Knowledge of software design patterns and their implementation within the iOS ecosystem.
Proven ability to lead UX/UI improvements and translate designs into robust, responsive UIs.
Strong Experience developing clients for APIs and microservices.
Ability to write clean, maintainable UI code and promote this culture within the team.
Familiarity with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, automation, and modern software engineering best practices.
Experience working with tools like GitHub and GitHub Actions.
Good Understanding of security best practices in software development.
B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent vocational experience.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of Kotlin, Java, and Objective-C is a plus.
Experience of building mobile apps for IoT products or networking devices such as routers, mesh systems, or smart home hubs.
Experience of building consumer grade mobile apps.
Knowledge of hardware communication protocols (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) and how they impact mobile-hardware interactions.
