This role is crucial in providing specialized assistance and intervention services to infants and their families, laying the foundation for a lifetime of growth and development.
About the Role
The Paraeducator Independence Facilitator - Infant Program works closely with Special Education Early Childhood teachers, speech-language pathologists, nurses, occupational/physical therapists, and other professionals to deliver targeted support to infants with special needs and their families. This position is available at Alcott Elementary, located at 4680 Hidalgo Ave, San Diego, CA 92117, and requires in-person work Monday through Friday within the school bell schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-academic and age-appropriate activities with infants with special needs in various settings, including independent home visits, school classrooms, playgrounds, and licensed children's institutions.
- Implement orientation and mobility activities, record developmental observations and assessments, and assist in training parents in strategies and techniques necessary for their child's care.
- Provide personal care and hygiene assistance, including changing diapers and clothes, and performing specialized health care procedures as directed by the school nurse.
- Assist with instruction in all areas of development, including pre-academic activities, self-care, mobility, socialization, gross and fine motor skills, and sensory integration.
- Serve as a liaison with parents and community groups/agencies, facilitating support and linkage to services.
- Prepare specialized materials and audiovisual aids for use in home and classroom settings.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including bathroom facilities, supply rooms, and walkways.
- Supervise students in various settings, including during meals and on buses.
- Participate in staff development programs and perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent.
- A passing score on the San Diego Unified School District Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or an Associate's degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university.
- One (1) year of related or equivalent paid infant/toddler childcare experience in a home, facility, or school classroom.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation (for designated positions requiring student transportation).
- Maintenance of district Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation training.
Preferred qualifications include completion of post-high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field.

This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $22.41, with opportunities for growth on the PARA Salary Schedule. Benefits include:
