Job description: POSITION PURPOSE: Beaufort County School District seeks certified persons to serve as tutors. To provide intensive and extensive tutorial services for identified students to develop successful academic skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Provides academic assistance to assigned students, either in a group setting or one-on-one, as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Collaborates with the classroom teacher to assess selected students and develop effective methods of tutorial service delivery.
- Maintains records on each tutored student, including follow-up and periodic evaluation of progress.
- Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and helps them develop study skills necessary for academic success.
- Helps students develop a positive attitude, a high level of motivation and self-confidence in academic work, serves as a role model for students being served.
- Assists in designing and implementing cooperative group projects as needed.
- Attends periodic training sessions to enhance competency in tutoring.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Must have a valid teaching certificate or proof of retirement from teaching.
EXPERIENCE: - Prior tutorial experience preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of children.
- Ability to work with others.
- Willingness to follow directions.
- Ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with Board Policy.
- Ability to accept individual differences among children.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented.
