Job Summary
As a Hawaiian Transcription Team Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of 5-10 transcribers, monitoring their progress, and ensuring timely project completion. You will also be involved in hiring and onboarding new transcribers, administering language verification tests, and providing support to team members. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in transcription and reviewing activities, allowing you to earn income through multiple streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular and prompt communication with team members and stakeholders in English
- Monitoring team progress and performance, ensuring timely project completion, and providing feedback to team members
- Providing invoices and invoicing summaries, and managing administrative tasks
- Assisting in hiring and onboarding new transcribers, following company-established procedures
- Administering and grading language verification tests, revising and enhancing tests as needed
- Training and providing support to transcribers, ensuring they have the necessary resources to excel in their roles
- Transcribing audio content alongside team members during downtime, contributing to the project's progression
- Troubleshooting issues reported by transcribers, collaborating with the Team Services Manager and department Operations Coordinator to resolve problems
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- Full proficiency in the Hawaiian language (ISO: haw), with a deep understanding of its nuances and complexities
- Professional work experience in Linguistics, Translation, Transcription, or localization, with a strong background in team management and project coordination
- Proficiency in computer and internet skills, with the ability to navigate multiple platforms, including MAC and PC, Microsoft Applications, and G Suite
- Strong grammar, orthography, and punctuation skills, with the ability to demonstrate expertise through a proficiency test
- Responsive and timely email access, with effective web search skills and the ability to adapt to new tools and technologies
- The ability to onboard within two weeks, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience using Upwork, with a proven track record of successfully managing projects and teams on the platform
- A strong understanding of the localization industry, with experience working on projects involving transcription, translation, and linguistic analysis
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package, with multiple streams of income:
- Transcription: USD $3.50 per audio minute transcribed
- Reviewing: USD $1.00 per audio minute reviewed
- Management: USD $0.60 per audio minute completed (total of all project audio minutes)
- Language verification test review: USD $15 per review
The projected project volume is currently 24 audio hours, with the potential for fluctuations. Payment will be made on a 60-day pay cycle, with acceptable payment methods including PayPal, Payoneer, and Wise. Productive Playhouse will cover platform fees associated with the accepted payment platforms.
