Position Overview
As a Virtual Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for creating and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of students in a virtual learning environment. You will provide remote instruction, accommodations, and modifications to ensure all students can succeed in their academic and social development. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fully remote setting, while still being part of a dynamic team of educators.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement IEPs: Create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of students in a virtual learning environment.
- Provide Remote Instruction: Provide remote instruction, accommodations, and modifications to ensure all students can succeed in their academic and social development.
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students receive appropriate support and resources.
- Monitor Student Progress: Regularly monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and goals as needed.
- Conduct Virtual IEP Meetings: Conduct virtual IEP meetings, communicating regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, goals, and needs.
- Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain detailed, accurate records of student progress and ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
- Utilize Online Tools: Utilize online tools, platforms, and assistive technology to support students' individual learning needs.
- Foster a Positive Online Classroom Environment: Foster a positive, inclusive online classroom environment that encourages student engagement, participation, and development.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- New Mexico Special Education Teaching License: Valid New Mexico Special Education Teaching License.
- IEP Development and Implementation: Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, along with state and federal special education laws.
- Virtual Learning Platforms: Proficient in using virtual learning platforms, assistive technology, and other digital tools to support instruction.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in a virtual environment.
- Self-Motivation: Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively in a fully remote role.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience Teaching Students with Disabilities: Experience teaching students with a variety of disabilities (e.g., autism, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders) in a virtual setting.
- Familiarity with Digital Tools: Familiarity with digital tools for special education support and virtual collaboration.
- Knowledge of Current Best Practices: Knowledge of current best practices in remote learning, special education, and inclusive teaching strategies.
