Job Overview
As a Staff Data Scientist specializing in Search Retrieval at arenaflex, you will be at the forefront of improving and optimizing our search algorithms. You will play a key role in driving innovation and performance in how customers interact with our platform. The ideal candidate will bring a deep expertise in data science, machine learning, and search retrieval methodologies to develop and implement robust solutions. You will be a group lead, owning one of the team's fundamental workstreams, assisting in forcing technical direction for the team, and guiding other team members to achieve product and technical goals.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
On a daily basis, you will discover data and formulate problem statements, develop and deploy predictive models while monitoring them in production, and guide the team accordingly. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, evangelize your team's work, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance and optimize search algorithms for improved accuracy, relevance, and overall user experience
- Experimenting with Proof of Concept Machine Learning model improvements, scaling them to production, and running iterative A/B experiments to enhance our matching technology while participating with other teams
- Defining and clarifying project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and understanding of project goals and outcomes
- Mentoring and developing other software engineers, data scientists, and Machine Learning Engineers across teams
- Breaking down large Machine Learning projects into portions that deliver incremental business value and guiding the team through implementing them
- Representing arenaflex at major Machine Learning conferences like Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), and International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR)
Essential Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a deep passion for designing and building machine learning systems, someone who loves thought-provoking assignments, is eager to learn, and wants to work with a variety of technologies to "help humans get jobs". The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields
- 3+ years of industry experience as an AI Engineer, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Engineer
- Prior success in deploying impactful Machine Learning solutions to large-scale production systems, while collaborating across teams
- Solid understanding of data systems and algorithms
- Sense of ownership and accountability as a key contributor in the technical and product domains
- Knowledge and hands-on experience working on Deep Learning Libraries (like Torch, Tensorflow, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English, powerful with technical and business audiences
Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields
- 5+ years of industry experience as an AI Engineer, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Engineer
