Our community pharmacy residency program is located in Worcester, MA, and is academically affiliated with and financially supported by a reputable institution. Our pharmacy is an innovative community pharmacy practice site dedicated to providing pharmacist-delivered clinical patient care services customized to patients who are prescribed complex treatments for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, multiple sclerosis, and oncology.
Program Description
As a pharmacy resident at blithequark, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of community pharmacy practice, including:
- Clinical: You will rotate through different sites to achieve the objectives set out by the licensure guidelines, including community, specialty, mobile, and medication safety rotations.
- Educational: You will have opportunities for teaching, including small group and larger educational talks, and will serve as an assistant preceptor for the community pharmacy practice laboratory.
- Functional/Managerial: You will develop your administrative role as a pharmacist, working with the pharmacy manager at our sites and with the pharmacy managers at blithequark to understand the nuances of pharmacy operations.
- Leadership: You will have opportunities to become involved with state and national pharmacy associations, attending Massachusetts Pharmacy Executive meetings, local and national pharmacy meetings, and assisting with regulatory activities to advance the practice of pharmacy.
Objectives
The objectives of our pharmacy residency program are:
- To engage the resident in the clinical, educational, functional, and administrative aspects of community pharmacy practice.
- To prepare the resident to assume clinical, educational, functional, and administrative responsibilities within the community practice setting.
- To provide a structure by which the resident contributes to the development of pharmacy services within the community setting.
- To develop the resident's precepting and teaching skills.
- To contribute to quality improvement programs where appropriate.
- To successfully develop and implement a longitudinal residency project and present a manuscript for publication in a reputable pharmacy journal.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for our pharmacy residency program, you must:
- Have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a school or college of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
- Be able to obtain a pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program.
- Submit residency application materials to the Pharmacy Online Residency Integrated Application Service (PhORCAS).
- Participate in and comply with the rules of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program.
- Be immunized or able to become immunized within 90 days of hire.
