Key Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Associate Faculty - English, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational experiences of our students. Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching assigned English courses to enrolled students in various formats, including online, blended, and face-to-face settings
- Developing, preparing, and implementing engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs and styles
- Conducting pre- and post-assessment of students to evaluate their progress and adjust instructional strategies
- Managing and maintaining accurate student records, statistics, and other pertinent information
- Collaborating with colleagues and faculty to assess teaching strategies and improve the instructional program
- Responding to communications from students and colleagues within 48 hours
- Resolving issues relevant to your area of responsibility and referring complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Education and Experience
- A Master's degree in English, Linguistics, Creative Writing, or Composition, or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in English or Composition from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
- Proficiency in current technologies, including word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management Systems
- Understanding of research-based adult learning principles and their application in educational settings
- Familiarity with trends, developments, and new technologies affecting education
- Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students' needs and progress
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to diverse populations and maintain composure in challenging situations
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and tasks with attention to detail
- Capacity to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive information
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The work environment for this position is primarily performed under limited supervision in a typical classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting, with appropriate climate controls. Evening or weekend work may be required.
