Job Overview
We are looking for an Instructional Designer who is passionate about creating engaging online learning experiences and has a strong background in instructional design, educational technology, and online course development. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty authors to design and develop new courses for asynchronous and synchronous online learning platforms, advise on the application of technological resources to enhance teaching and student engagement, and guide faculty authors on course pedagogy, design, development, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty authors in the design and development of new courses for online learning platforms, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives
- Advise and assist faculty in the application of technological resources to enhance teaching and student engagement, including the use of multimedia and interactive tools
- Guide faculty authors on course pedagogy, design, development, and ongoing continuous improvement, providing feedback and support throughout the course development process
- Collaborate with faculty authors in reengineering old courses and transitioning course content into new platforms, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption to students
- Support faculty in the development and maintenance of existing online courses, providing technical assistance and troubleshooting as needed
- Research and evaluate the integration of new software applications, tools, and technologies to enhance web course delivery, including multimedia and interactive tools
- Collaborate with University subject matter experts to design and develop online training for students and staff, promoting a culture of lifelong learning and professional development
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in instructional design principles and practices
- At least two years of experience working in an instructional design capacity, collaborating directly with college faculty in online curriculum-building and web-based course development, with a proven track record of success
- Knowledge of course pedagogy, design, development, and improvement, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical setting
- Proficiency in at least one online course delivery platform (preferably Instructure Canvas), with the ability to learn and adapt to new platforms and technologies
- Proficiency in basic HTML and in-line CSS code, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical setting
- Experience with rapid content development software (e.g., basic photo editing in Photoshop, Fireworks, or Snagit; basic web design in Adobe Dreamweaver; audio production in Audacity, tutorial and movie production in Captivate or Camtasia), with the ability to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies
- Demonstrated creativity and critical thinking ability, with the ability to approach problems from a unique perspective and develop innovative solutions
- Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Online teaching experience, demonstrating a strong understanding of the online learning environment and the needs of online students
- Experience conducting educational research, with a strong understanding of research methods and principles
- Experience in universal design for learning, with knowledge of accessibility standards for online courses and familiarity with assistive technologies for online environments, demonstrating a commitment to creating inclusive and accessible learning experiences
